é - Vowel E
- è - It is used when the next letter in the word is
silent; air sound (ex. mère)
- î and others with the circumflex - It doesnt effect the
pronunciation of the words (ex. maître)
- ç - makes a soft s sound (ex. français)
- œ - makes a ew
sound (ex. - sœur)
- à - The grave accent on the letters à
(ah) has no effect on pronunciation and only serves to distinguish homonyms that
are otherwise spelled the same. (ex. là)
